Proposed site and location

Woolworths is proposing a new full line supermarket and complementary retail at a vacant, cleared site in Craignish to provide greater convenience retail to the existing and growing population.

This location presents the potential to foster sustainable initiatives, introduce valuable local services and establish an inviting community hub where connection can thrive.

In planning and preparing a Development Application (DA) for a supermarket and other complementary uses, we have actively considered community feedback about the need for additional services to support and enrich Craignish.

We invite the community to review our plans and continue providing feedback to help ensure our proposal.

If you have any questions or would like further information, please contact our team via email at contact@retail-projects.com.

About the plans

A supermarket designed to meet the requirements of the local community is proposed on site, complemented by additional specialty retail and services for the community. The plans will include:

  • Full-line Woolworths supermarket

  • Alfresco dining, complementary specialty retail and services

  • 230 at-grade car parking spaces (approx.), with road access from Karraschs Road

  • Six (6) Direct-to-Boot pick-up bays to collect online grocery orders

  • Sustainability initiatives including solar panels and water reuse.

We are seeking approval to deliver a uniquely designed retail offer with architectural and built features that reflect the local area.

The supermarket will create new ongoing, local jobs, including opportunities for more young people to work locally. A full line supermarket will also reduce the need for residents to travel outside to complete a large shop.

Your feedback is important to us

During the early planning phase, we actively sought input from the local community and received many valuable suggestions.
The key themes that emerged from our consultation included:

  • Importance of a design that integrates well into the local residential area

  • Ensuring traffic conditions are managed through efficient and safe site access

  • Complimentary retail services that will enhance the Craignish retail offer

  • Support for reduced travel distance to shop

  • Providing work opportunities for locals

  • Protecting local amenity.

This feedback has helped shape our planning and design approach. While we are currently progressing through the Development Application (DA) process, we remain committed to ongoing community input and welcome further feedback.

The community will also have the opportunity to provide feedback during the Public Notification phase.

We continue to welcome your feedback

Ongoing community input is important to us, as it helps ensure we deliver a place - subject to approval - that complements the existing services and character of Craignish. If you haven’t yet shared your thoughts, we welcome your feedback, as we are still in the early stages of planning and approvals.

Planning process

Following initial community engagement, which informed our planning, we submitted a Development Application with Fraser Coast Regional Council in May 2025. The references are:

  • MCU25/0038 (Development Permit/DA)

  • RAL25/0030 (Subdivision).

We are currently at Stage 3 and will continue to update this site as we progress.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Our proposal represents a $25 million investment in the local community. This commitment reflects our confidence in the region and our dedication to supporting its continued growth and prosperity.

The investment includes construction, infrastructure upgrades, and the creation of local jobs. We are confident it will deliver a high-quality shopping experience with long-term benefits for the Fraser Coast community.

  • The main trade area population in the vicinity of the site is estimated at over 15,000 people. This is sufficient for a full line supermarket.

In addition to this, the Fraser Coast region is experiencing strong population growth, which is increasing demand for a broader range of goods and services.

The proposed new store is designed to meet this growing demand, providing convenient access to everyday essentials for the existing and expanded community. We are committed to supporting the needs of local residents, now and into the future.

  • The new store is expected to create approximately 120 new jobs. It is our intention these roles will be filled by residents of the Fraser Coast, supporting local employment and helping grow regional talent.

  • We have just finalised the plans and lodged them with Council. While a specific timeline is not yet available, store openings typically occur around two years after the planning phase is complete.

  • The store layout will be developed further once Council approval is received. At this stage, the proposed store will include a bakery, deli, fresh produce, and meat departments, as well as a six-bay Direct to Boot pick-up facility.

  • Yes, our plans include a total of 276 car parking spaces, equating to the ratio of five spaces per 100 square metres of floor area. This is consistent with similar developments in the area.

  • Yes, our plans include a weather-protected, six-bay Direct-to-Boot pick-up facility for online grocery orders.

  • Yes, our plans will include public restrooms and an accessible bathroom equipped with a baby change facility.

  • Yes, our plans will include solar photovoltaic (PV) systems to help offset operational energy use, as well as rainwater collection and reuse for irrigation and/or toilet flushing.

  • A traffic report has been lodged with Council outlining the expected changes. Proposed road upgrades include a small roundabout at the intersection of Karraschs Road and Pearl Drive to facilitate customer access to the site, as well as minor modifications to the intersection of Pialba Burrum Heads Road and Karraschs Road.

  • Two access points are proposed: the main customer access will be via a new small roundabout at the junction of Karraschs Road and Pearl Drive, while a separate access for loading vehicles will also be located off Karraschs Road.

  • Subject to Council approval, a detailed Construction Management Plan will be implemented. We will also work closely with our delivery partner to minimise and manage any issues that arise throughout construction.
